Venom Program
For 75 years, the Australian Reptile Park's snake venom program has been helping save lives, with 2026 also marking 45 years of funnel-web spider venom milkings.
The Park supplies 100% of the venom used to make Australia's antivenoms for deadly snakes. The Reptile Park's expert team milks over 250 snakes and houses 2,000 funnel-web spiders, providing venom to CSL Seqirus to create life-saving treatments.
Thanks to this work, antivenom saves around 300 lives every year, and there have been no recorded deaths from confirmed funnel-web spider bites in Australia since the introduction of antivenom in 1981.
Visitors can witness this incredible science in action at the Weigel Venom Centre, a world-class facility where conservation meets cutting-edge research. The program continues to lead the way in wildlife protection, public safety and venom innovation, proving that even the deadliest creatures can help save lives.
