The full story 🐊 We are incredibly proud of @billy_collett_, @brandon_troy_gifford__ and our team for safely making this crocodile capture in Newcastle. The croc is now in our care until the department decided where her permanent home will be. After searching the creek for hours, our team believes this was the only croc in the water. This juvenile freshwater crocodile was most likely an illegal pet that has been dumped and we encourage anyone with information on this to contact the authorities. Thank you to the public for quick reporting, but please remember, if you ever see unusual wildlife, don’t approach it. Report the sighting and let trained professionals handle it safely. Freshwater crocodiles can cause serious injury when not handled correctly. Great catch Billy! 👏 Our team was called out after reports of a juvenile freshwater crocodile spotted in Newcastle! @Bill_collett_ @brandon_troy_gifford__ and the team worked all weekend to find her, now she's safe in our hands! Freshwater crocodiles are not native to NSW, so she may have been an illegal pet that someone has dumped. Our vet checked her and luckily she's perfectly healthy! At this stage we believe there was only 1 croc in the creek, but if there are more sightings, we'll right back in the to catch them! 💪

Newcastle crocodile secured!! 🐊 What a weekend! Our team was called out after reports of a juvenile freshwater crocodile spotted in Ironbark Creek, west of Newcastle. With murky water this wasn’t a simple job but our team, led by @bill_collett_ worked across the weekend to safely secure the little croc late Sunday night, with the it's safety being our number one priority. Freshwater crocodiles are native to northern Australia, not NSW, and with colder weather on the way, this youngster wouldn’t have survived for long in these conditions. After being found around 3km downstream from the original sighting, the croc has now been safely transported to the Australian Reptile Park. Our veterinary team is giving it a full health check and making sure it’s getting the proper care it needs 💚 A huge thank you to the locals who reported the sighting, you did the right thing. And remember, if you ever see unusual wildlife, don’t approach it. Call the authorities and let trained professionals handle it safely.
